Volcano

Croghan Hill

  • About two hundred million years ago Croghan Hill erupted.
  • It was one of thousand of volcanoes in the world.
  • The heat of the lava was one thousand,two hundred degrees celcius.
  • At the time Ireland was beside Argentina.
  • There are plates in the world called tectonic plates.They are like pieces of a

jigsaw that fit together but sometimes move.This is what moved Ireland from
Argentina.

  • It is seven hundred and sixty-nine feet above sea level which is around two

hundred and fifty metres.

  • It is the highest hill in Offaly besides the Slive Bloom Mountains.
  • It can be seen from the Mourne Mountains in County Down on a clear day.
  • It is now an extinct volcano. It is a "harmless auld crater."
